The most intimate room in the house is the kitchen,” insists screenwriter A.W. Gryphon. “It’s where we care for people by feeding them, have the best conversations and, of course, where we stage the greatest seductions.” That’s why Gryphon chose it as the setting for the simple and tenderly beautiful exploration of love served up in the multiple award-winning movie La Cucina.

La Cucina features an exceptional cast: Christina Hendricks (Mad Men breakout sensation) makes her film debut opposite international star Joaquim de Almeida (The Burning Plain, 24), while supermodel-turned actress Rachel Hunter (A Walk in the Park) and Showtime’s L Word pin-up girl Leisha Hailey turn their usual roles upside down. The film also features an original guitar score composed and performed on-screen by Ian Ball of the indie-rock band Gomez (now on world tour).

La Cucina is a brief slice of life—a look at four people trying, just like the rest of us, to figure out what makes a relationship work. In neighboring apartments, two conversations go late into the night. Downstairs, Lily (Hendricks), young and sure of herself but barely able to make a salad, squares off in an emotional duel with the dashing Michael (Almeida), who is older and worldlier than she—both in the kitchen and in matters of romance. Can they trust each other? Is their unmistakable attraction the start of a casual adventure or the chance for something deeper? In the kitchen above, the very pregnant Shelly (Hailey) is terrified that becoming a mother will drive away her husband and has stormed out of their place after a culinary disaster. She’s gone to see her lesbian friend Jude (Hunter), sure that this magnificent cook who’s been in a long-term relationship has it all figured out. But as Shelley pours out her fears and Jude prepares a sumptuous feast for a lover whose attentions turn out to be elsewhere, it soon becomes clear that both women have secrets they’d rather not reveal.

Delving into the tangled web of attraction, lust, commitment, marriage, betrayal, insecurity, affection and hope, La Cucina also reminds us, in mouthwatering detail, that food and love go hand in hand.

Directed by Allison Hebble and Zed B. Starkovich, La Cucina is winner of the awards for Best Feature at the Los Angeles Backlot Film Festival and Beloit International Film Festival, and for Best Screenplay at the Bragacine International Film Festival in Portugal. The film was also an official selection of the Hollywood International Film Festival and LA Femme Film Festival.

Christina Hendricks is one busy lady.

Her hit AMC series Mad Men is nominated for 16 Emmys, she’s filming a movie with Katherine Heigl, and she’s getting hitched to her fiancé next month.

She’ll tie the knot with actor Geoffrey Arend at a very small ceremony in one of their favorite NYC restaurants.

“We really wanted to be filled with our absolute best friends and our family,”she told E! News at Tacori’s party for the new 18k925 collection. “We didn’t want to spread ourselves too thin and we really wanted it to have a warm environment, so we kept it with the tightest people.”

The sexy TV secretary dished on which designer she’ll wear to walk down the aisle…

“It’s Carolina Herrera and—I don’t want to reveal too much so my fiancé won’t find out—but really, it’s really timeless,” she gushed.

If Mad Men wins any of the awards it’s nominated for on Sunday night, she won’t have much time celebrate.

“The day after the Emmys, I’m flying out to Georgia to shoot,” shesaid. “I’m going to be playing Katie Heigl’s best friend.”

Maybe she’ll get to meet Katherine’s new adopted Korean baby, Naleigh?

And to this news I say: Yay! Why am I cheering about more ads, you might be asking yourself? (I hate ads generally!) Plain and simple: It means that creator Matthew Weiner’s genius doesn’t have to be sacrificed. You see, usually more advertising means fewer minutes of drama, as the precious time is forfeited to the likes of Chase and Kraft Macaroni & Cheese. Mad Men already has the generous run time of 47-48 minutes per episode, while most cable series have 44-46 minutes and broadcast usually allots just 42-43 minutes. But I’d argue that in the case of Mad Men — rife with all those episode-ending, moody moments where the camera pans out as the characters quietly contemplate their predicaments — needs every minute it is given. You agree, I hope? This is one moment where Hollywood’s business — and creative — interests both win.

As a preview of the upcoming season — and celebration of the preservation of creativity — I present you a little video that sort of looks forward to what may come:

Salvator may take a trip to the Village? (You know what his closeted character will be doing down there!) Betty Draper keeping things unhappy? (Yes, please!) Roger Sterling just hoping to survive? (No more heart attacks!) I’ll take it all, even though all this is just random speculation by the cast. Believe me, we ain’t getting any leaks about what season 3 will truly entail. Matthew Weiner just doesn’t roll that way.
